DeepL Translate for TYPO3
Update: July 2026
Finally, say goodbye to spring fatigue and dive headfirst into that summer vibe!
We’ve put together an exciting summer package for you with numerous updates for the DeepL Translate extensions for TYPO3. We’ll show you what’s improved for editors, what new features have been added, and what changes have been made “under the hood” to the code.
We’ll also give you a preview of what’s to come in the weeks and months ahead.
Early Access Becomes Extended Access
For several months now, the developer program—which originally launched as an Early Access Program—has been much more than just early access to new versions of the DeepL Translate extensions.
For this reason, we have decided to continue using the well-known acronym EAP as the “Extended Access Program” going forward.
Participants in the Extended Access Program benefit from enhanced features, personalized support, and direct communication channels for quick and practical solutions. For example, features such as the DeepL External Glossary were implemented quickly and easily.
Since we’ve received an increasing number of inquiries from existing partners in recent weeks, we’re now also offering the new EAP as a plan with automatic renewal every 12 months. The introductory price is 750.00 EUR net per year.
The EAP can be conveniently booked and paid for through our online store, either in conjunction with a subscription or independently:

DeepL Translate - Ready for TYPO3 v14
Of course, we haven't been slacking off over the past few weeks and months—we've been hard at work ensuring the compatibility of the various add-ons. As of early June, absolutely all existing add-ons are now ready for TYPO3 v14 and v13 and are available immediately to all existing Early Access Partners. You don’t need a new EAP for this—you just need to have a valid EAP.
Specifically, this means that the following extensions are now available for TYPO3 v14:
- deepltranslate_core - freely available in TER or on packagist.org
- deepltranslate_glossary - freely available in TER or on packagist.org
- deepltranslate-auto-renew - available exclusively via the EAP on packagist.com
- deepltranslate-mass - available exclusively via the EAP on packagist.com
- deepltranslate-assets - available exclusively via the EAP on packagist.com
- enable-translated-content - available exclusively through the EAP on packagist.com
- NEW: deepltranslate-external-glossary - available exclusively through the EAP on packagist.com
DeepL Translate Core
Current version: 6.0.3
In version 6, the core extension now fully supports TYPO3 v14. For editors, the usual workflow remains unchanged—translations can still be started directly from the backend as before.
Specific improvements include:
- Light/dark mode support: All action icons and the DeepL logo now automatically adapt to the backend’s selected color scheme.
- More reliable translation of individual records: An error that could occur when translating individual entries has been fixed.
- No crash when the character limit is empty: If the DeepL API returns a character limit of 0, an error no longer occurs in the backend.
Important note for upgrades to v6: Support for TYPO3 v12 and the deprecated autotranslate mode have been removed. Users still using TYPO3 v12 will continue to be fully supported on the 5.1.x branch (currently 5.1.6).
DeepL Translate Glossary
Current version: 6.0.1
The Glossary module has been updated for TYPO3 v14. Now visible to editors:
- Synchronization button in the Records module: The “Sync” button for synchronizing glossary entries with the DeepL API is now also directly accessible in the TYPO3 v14 Records module.
- Light/Dark Mode: The glossary action icons also automatically adapt to the selected color scheme.
Users who remain on TYPO3 v13 will also receive the updated icons for light/dark mode with version 5.1.3.
NEW: External Glossary (Preview)
deepltranslate-external-glossary
This new extension is still under development and has been released as a preview so far. It extends the glossary system of DeepL Extensions by adding support for external glossary sources.
The preview version is available for TYPO3 versions v12, v13, and v14.
DeepL Translate Assets
New: Bulk Translation of File Metadata
Current version: 3.0.0 / 2.2.4
Starting with version 2.1.0 (December 2025), asset metadata can now also be translated via bulk translation—directly from the File module. A new entry is available in the folder context menu of the File Module that allows you to add the metadata of all files in a folder (or recursively in all subfolders) to the translation queue all at once. The actual processing is handled by EXT:deepltranslate_mass in the background.
To prevent the bulk translation from being triggered multiple times by accident, the context menu entry is automatically disabled as long as there are still items pending in the queue.
Prerequisite: EXT:deepltranslate_mass must be installed. However, the Assets extension continues to work for individual translations even without this dependency.
New in 2.2.0: Automatic and Renewed Translation of Asset Metadata
Starting with version 2.2.0 (March 2026), the Assets extension, in combination with EXT:deepltranslate_auto_renew, also supports the automatic translation and renewal of file metadata. If a file’s metadata is changed, the translation can be automatically renewed—without manual intervention by editors.
Additional Improvements
- Translation renewal now works reliably again: A bug that prevented the renewal of asset translations has been fixed.
- No more duplicate translation entries: An upgrade wizard automatically cleans up duplicate entries that may have been caused by a previous bug (DPL-162).
- Context menu with color-scheme-aware icons: The icons in the FAL context menu now display correctly in both light and dark modes.
Version 3.0.0 also introduces full TYPO3 v14 support. Users who remain on v13 will receive all of the improvements mentioned via version 2.2.4.
DeepL Translate Auto-Renew
Current version: 3.0.0 / 2.1.4
The extension for automatically updating translations has been stabilized in several areas:
- Correct page detection during renewal: Translations are now reliably assigned to the correct page.
- Already localized records are not processed twice: Detection of existing translations has been improved, so unwanted duplicate runs no longer occur.
- Missing default checkbox values fixed: The default values for language options in the site configuration are now correctly preset.
DeepL Translate Mass
Current version: 3.0.0 / 2.1.3
The module for bulk translation of entire site trees also includes stability improvements that editors will notice right away:
- Translation queue visible again in the dashboard: The dashboard widget for pending translations now displays correctly.
- JavaScript errors in the backend fixed: Certain interactions in the bulk translation module caused JavaScript errors, which have now been fixed.
- Context menu icons in light/dark mode: Here, too, the icons are now displayed correctly based on the color scheme.
- More secure permission assignment: Permission flags are now set to false by default, so permissions must be explicitly granted.
DeepL Base
Current version: 2.0.1
This base extension serves as the common foundation for all other DeepL extensions. Since version 1.0.0 (June 2025), it has included a feature that directly affects editors in the localization wizard of the page layout module:
- Customizable localization modes in the translation dialog: The localization wizard in the page layout has been fundamentally redesigned. Instead of the built-in TYPO3 modes, extensions can now add their own translation modes (e.g., DeepL-specific translation options) without overwriting each other. For editors, this means a more stable and consistent localization workflow.
Version 2.0.x also laid the groundwork for support of TYPO3 v14.
DeepL Write
Current version: 2.0.0
The DeepL Write extension for TYPO3 now includes readability scoring directly within the rich-text editor. This integration requires a TYPO3 integrator to adjust the RTE configuration.
- Editors receive immediate feedback on how readable a text is before and after being rewritten by DeepL Write. The index is displayed as a colored bar above the original text and the optimized text, and is recalculated for the optimized text as soon as the rewritten version is available.
- The Flesch-Kinkaid calculation supports German, English, French, Italian, and Portuguese.
- Additional languages and calculation methods for determining readability can be added through customizations.
Version 2.0.x also laid the foundation for support of TYPO3 v14.

Breaking Changes in the 6.x / 3.x Generation
- TYPO3 v12 support has been removed from all 6.x/3.x branches (core, glossary, assets, auto-renew, mass).
- Autotranslate mode removed (deepltranslate-core): The mode has been replaced by the standardized localization handler.
- DeeplTranslateViewHelper removed (deepltranslate-core): Must be replaced by the new API.
- v13-only classes in a separate namespace (deepl-base): Classes have been moved to a dedicated Core13 namespace
New APIs and Architecture
- PSR-14 Event DetermineRecordPidZeroSiteConfiguration (deepltranslate-core 6.0.2): Allows for the individual determination of the site configuration for records with pid=0.
- AccessItemInterface via auto-registration (deepltranslate-core 6.0.0): Custom permission classes are automatically recognized without manual registration.
- Preparation for Glossary API v3 (deepltranslate-core 6.0.0 / deepltranslate-glossary 6.0.0): The client structure has been prepared for the upcoming DeepL Glossary API v3; v2 is currently still in use.
- AsEventListener PHP attribute (deepltranslate-assets 3.x, deepltranslate-auto-renew 3.x): Event listeners are now registered via PHP attributes instead of YAML.
- PSR-14 events for auto-renew decisions (deepltranslate-auto-renew 2.1.0): Two new events (AutoTranslateAllowedEvent, RenewTranslateAllowedEvent, AutoRenewPossibleEvent, DetectAvailableLanguagesEvent) allow other extensions (e.g., deepltranslate-assets) to influence permission for automatic translation. Foundation for asset auto-renew integration in deepltranslate-assets 2.2.0.
- Customizable localization modes (deepl-base 1.0.0): PSR-14 events GetLocalizationModesEvent and LocalizationProcessPrepareDataHandlerCommandMapEvent enable custom localization modes in the page layout modal without XClass hacks.
- web-vision/deeplcom-deepl-php:~1.18.x as the new minimum requirement for deepltranslate-core 6.x.
Upgrade Notes
- When upgrading to deepltranslate-assets 2.2.2+ or 3.0.0, run the included upgrade wizard in the TYPO3 Install Tool to clean up duplicate asset translation entries.
- deepltranslate-core 5.1.x and 6.0.x run in parallel: For TYPO3 v13 instances that cannot yet migrate to v14, 5.1.6 is the recommended version.
- The ext_emconf.php file has been aligned with the composer.json file in all extensions—relevant for installations in Classic Mode
DeepL Translate - Feature Sponsors
The following educational institutions have had web-vision jointly develop new functions for the DeepL Translate extension as part of a requirements pooling process. The requirements were determined jointly and the development was jointly financed. Thanks to this cooperative form of development participation, the glossary function, the markup labels for automatic translations and the simplified release with Enable-Translated-Content were successfully realized.
