DeepL Translate for TYPO3

Development update June 2025

Hey, wait a minute, it was just January, wasn't it? Blink twice and it's already June. Spring has sprung, the days are finally getting longer and warmer again, and the DeepL Translate crew has some "fresh updates". Today we want to show you what's been happening with the DeepL Translate extensions over the last few weeks and months, and this time there's another little surprise at the end of the news/newsletter.

DeepL Translate Add-Ons v13 ready

Of course, we have not been lazy over the past weeks and months and have been working diligently on the compatibility of the various add-ons. Since mid-May, all existing add-ons for TYPO3 v12 and v13 have been ready and are now available for all existing Early Access Partners. A new EAP is not required, you just need to have a valid EAP.

Specifically, this means that the following extensions are now available for TYPO3 v13:

  • deepltranslate_core - available in the TER or on packagist.org
  • deepltranslate_glossary - available in the TER or on packagist.org
  • deepltranslate-auto-renew - available via the EAP on packagist.com
  • deepltranslate-mass - available via the EAP on packagist.com
  • deepltranslate-assets - available via the EAP on packagist.com
  • enable-translated-content - available via the EAP on packagist.com

Demo for TYPO3 v13 released

The new demo version of the DeepL Translate Extensions for TYPO3 is now also available for the current TYPO3 version 13. This allows editors and developers to test the various translation functions of the extensions and available add-ons directly in the system.

The demo instance has also been restructured and supplemented with system notes.

Access to the demo can be requested here.

One More Thing

In just a few days, on 28 June 2025 to be precise, the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG), which implements the European Accessibility Act (EAA), will come into force.

Like most agencies, institutions and organisations, we at web-vision are in the process of reviewing countless websites and continuously improving their accessibility.

A central aspect of barrier-free communication is the use of simple language. It helps people with cognitive impairments, little knowledge of German or learning difficulties to understand content better. Clear, short sentences and the avoidance of technical terms or complex structures enable broader participation in the digital space.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a tool for this very purpose that would enable TYPO3 to support the creation of texts in simple language? And perhaps also improve the academic quality of texts such as research papers, articles, dissertations and books? And even more ... ?

DeepL Write helps to optimise content

Simple language as translations in TYPO3

In a first, early development preview, we would like to introduce you to DeepL Write in TYPO3 today. A function is already available on the TYPO3 v13 demo instance that can be used to translate complex texts (either from German or English) into a simpler language (German Simple).

The configuration of DeepL Write for TYPO3 in the current version is carried out like another language in the TYPO3 site configuration.

Choose from the following language styles:

  • Simple: For simple, easy-to-understand texts for a wide audience
  • Business: For emails at work, pitches, reports and presentations
  • Academic: For research papers, articles, dissertations and books
  • Casual: For informal texts in social media, messaging apps and blogs

Choose whether texts should sound informal or formal. Change the tone of your texts to either enthusiastic, friendly, confident or diplomatic.

If you would like to test DeepL Write in your own TYPO3 installation, you will need DeepL Base Extension, which harmonises the translation wizard in TYPO3 for both extensions. Furthermore, DeepL Translate Core from version 5.1.0 is required as a development dependency.

composer config minimum-stability dev
composer config prefer-stable true
composer require web-vision/deepltranslate-core: "5.x-dev"

The DeepL Write is compatible with TYPO3 v12 and v13 and is available as an add-on for early access partners free of charge in the form of a development preview via packagist.com.

DeepL Write Development Preview

Call for demand pooling

The DeepL Write for TYPO3 Development Preview represents a first milestone in development. As a first proof-of-concept, the extension for TYPO3 v12 and v13 offers for the first time the possibility to optimise content with DeepL hosts.

In the coming weeks and months, feature requests and comments will be collected as part of a requirements pooling process in order to further develop the DeepL Write extension. Feedback, suggestions and development requests can be submitted to support(at)web-vision.de.

DeepL Translate - Feature Sponsors

The following educational institutions have had web-vision jointly develop new functions for the DeepL Translate extension as part of a requirements pooling process. The requirements were determined jointly and the development was jointly financed. Thanks to this cooperative form of development participation, the glossary function, the markup labels for automatic translations and the simplified release with Enable-Translated-Content were successfully realized.

DeepL Translate - Early-Access-Partner

The following Early-Access partners - including digital agencies, industrial companies, universities, educational institutions and organizations from the public sector - are already successfully using the DeepL Translate extension for high-quality, automatic and data protection-compliant translations with AI technology "Made in Germany".
